About Assumption of the BVM Parish – Radway

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Radway is a Ukrainian Catholic community rooted in the faith of the first settlers who arrived at the turn of the 20th century. The parish began in 1910 when land was donated for the church and cemetery, and the church was completed in 1914 with finishing work by Fr. Philip Ruh. Over the years, the parish became a lasting centre of worship and community life for Ukrainian Catholics in the Radway area.

The church was later painted by Peter Lypynsky in 1931 and consecrated by Bishop Basil Ladyka in 1932. A rectory was built by the Basilian Fathers in 1940, and the parish later added a church hall in the 1950s. The parish also had active lay organizations, including the UCWL, BUCC, and UCYC, and marked its 70th Jubilee in 1981 with the visit of Bishops Demetrius Greschuk and Jerome Chimy.
