Clergy Gather for Annual Study Days at Providence Renewal Centre
From October 5–8, the clergy of the Eparchy of Edmonton gathered at Providence Renewal Centre for Scripture study, prayer, fellowship, and pastoral conversation led by Professor Stéphane Saulnier.

From October 5–8, the clergy of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Edmonton gathered at Providence Renewal Centre for the annual Clergy Study Days.
The Study Days were led by Stéphane Saulnier, Professor of Sacred Scripture at Newman Theological College, Chair of the Master of Theological Studies Program, and Chair of the Scripture, History, and Foundations Department.
Professor Saulnier recently successfully defended his doctoral dissertation, jointly awarded by Dominican University College of Ottawa and Carleton University. His research examines the salvific dimension of the death of our Saviour Jesus Christ in relation to sin, as presented in the Gospel according to St. John and the First Letter of John.
During the Study Days, Professor Saulnier guided the clergy through his research, focusing on the heart of the Christian mystery and the development of its understanding during the early decades of the Christian era.
Together, the clergy explored the relationship between the Gospel of John and the First Letter of John. They considered the different ways these writings present the mystery of Christ’s saving death — with the Gospel of John presenting a primarily existential perspective and the First Letter of John emphasizing a sacrificial dimension.
At the centre of the reflection was the earliest Christian proclamation:
“Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures.”
— 1 Corinthians 15:3
The Annual Clergy Study Days were more than an academic program. They offered a valuable opportunity for prayer, spiritual retreat, theological education, conversation, and the sharing of pastoral experience.
The Eparchial team also spent time with the clergy during the Study Days, sharing information about upcoming events, current projects, and the work of the Eparchy. These conversations allowed the team to listen, exchange ideas, and reflect together on how the Church can continue serving the faithful and local communities.
A shared lunch provided another opportunity for fellowship. Around the table, everyone was able to speak openly, enjoy one another’s company, and strengthen the bonds of fraternity that support the life and mission of the Eparchy.
We give thanks for the opportunity to gather as clergy, to learn together, to pray together, and to encourage one another in the service of Christ and His people.
