Help Ukraine
Supporting humanitarian relief for Ukraine through trusted Catholic partners.
The Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Edmonton continues to support humanitarian relief for Ukraine in response to the ongoing war and its devastating impact on individuals, families, and communities.
Support for this work is directed through CNEWA to help ensure donations reach trusted projects and the people who need them most.

A Response of Faith and Solidarity
Supporting Ukraine is an act of compassion, responsibility, and Christian solidarity.
This initiative helps the faithful respond in a meaningful way to:
- humanitarian suffering caused by war
- displacement of families and vulnerable people
- the need for shelter, food, medical care, and pastoral support
- the ongoing spiritual and emotional burden carried by those affected
This page exists to help visitors understand both the heart of this response and the practical impact of the support being given.
Working With Trusted Partners
The Eparchy's support for Ukraine is strengthened through trusted Catholic partners, including CNEWA and local church-based networks serving people on the ground.
This is an important part of the initiative: donations are directed through CNEWA so support can move through trusted church and charitable partners already serving people in Ukraine. That helps give donors confidence that their gifts are reaching real needs in a responsible way.
The 2022 CNEWA emergency relief report shows how donations were directed through church and charitable partners already present in Ukraine and ready to respond quickly. Working with Caritas and local church communities, support reached families through:
- hot meals
- food supplies
- personal hygiene kits
- emergency shelter
- blankets and clothing
- recharging stations for phones
- counseling and pastoral care
- parish and community support for displaced people
This matters because help was not only generous. It was organized, immediate, and rooted in trusted relationships.
Reported Impact in 2022
According to the CNEWA Canada Ukraine Emergency Relief Report 2022, generous donors provided over $5.7 million CAD in 2022 to help protect and heal Ukrainian families affected by war.
The report highlights the following impact:
- close to 100 projects funded in Ukraine
- at least 365,000 people received essential aid and support
- close to 6,000 displaced people were hosted
- 316 priests were supported so they could continue serving people in need
- 183 seminarians were able to continue studies and serve people in times of war
- 18 shelters were equipped or renovated to host displaced people
- 9 medical centres received equipment, furniture, renovations, or food
- at least 6 institutions and 10 parishes were insulated or received generators
The report also shows funding across several urgent areas, including:
- basic needs
- shelter
- health care
- winterization
- social and pastoral care
- emergency support of institutions
- regular projects continued during the crisis
Ongoing Needs
The need did not end in 2022.
The report identified continued support needs in 2023 and beyond, including:
- food, clothing, shelter, and medical care for displaced families
- heating, fuel, and power support during outages
- restoration of homes and care for orphans
- psychological and spiritual support for those living with trauma
These needs remain deeply relevant. A more recent Ukraine Appeal 2026 also highlights continued support for:
- veterans' recovery and rehabilitation of military families
- mobile palliative care and support for war-affected elderly
- pastoral care for orphans and children in de-occupied Ukraine
- families living with unconfirmed loss
- healing of war wounds through priests' formation
The appeal also stresses that every dollar goes directly to trusted local partners, including priests, sisters, seminarians, and lay workers serving displaced families, children, veterans, and the elderly.
Reports, Appeals, and Accountability
These reports help show how support is directed through CNEWA and trusted church-based partners, and how donations are stewarded with care and accountability.
