Metanoia: A Ukrainian Christian Community for Young Adults in Edmonton

metanoia edmonton young adults group

A place to believe, ask and keep searching

Metanoia is a Ukrainian Christian community for young adults 18+ in Edmonton, formed under the umbrella of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Edmonton. We gather to build real friendships, speak honestly about faith and life, and seek God together.

Metanoia means a change of heart and mind. It is a community for people who believe, for people with questions, and for people who are still looking for answers. You do not need to have everything figured out. You are welcome here.

Every Metanoia gathering includes a priest who is available to answer questions or simply talk with you.

More than a lecture

Metanoia is not a class where you come only to listen. Each gathering is shaped as an evening of learning, conversation, prayer and community. We begin by turning our attention to God, explore one meaningful question of faith and life, then make room for people to speak, listen and get to know one another. You can join the discussion as much as you feel ready to — there is room to participate, to listen quietly and to ask honest questions.

Come for:

  • an engaging, accessible presentation;
  • time for questions and open discussion;
  • small-group conversation, where you can share experience, hear different views or simply talk about faith;
  • prayer together, with space for silence and worship;
  • liturgical singing and modern faith songs with guitar;
  • agape: coffee, refreshments and unhurried conversation;
  • an opportunity to meet other young adults and become part of a community.

Whether you pray every day, have not prayed in a long time, or are simply curious, you are invited.

This gathering’s topic: How to Speak with God?

Many people want to pray but are unsure how to begin. Maybe you have tried to pray and could not focus. Maybe you wonder whether God hears you — or whether you can pray only in church, only with familiar words, or only when life is difficult.

The heart of this evening is simple: prayer is not a performance or a list of perfect words. It is an honest conversation with God and the beginning of a living relationship with the One who knows and loves us.

Together, we will open up questions such as:

  • Why should I pray — and what can prayer change in my everyday life?
  • What can I do when I cannot focus or do not know what to say?
  • Can I pray anywhere: while walking, travelling, studying or working?
  • What does personal prayer mean in a relationship between God and me?
  • Does God really hear me, even when I am unsure, distracted or struggling?

This is not about finding one perfect formula. It is an invitation to take a real first step: to bring your joys, worries, questions and silence to God. Through an accessible presentation, the evening will explore how prayer can become part of ordinary life and a place of deeper trust. The presentation will remain rooted in this shared theme while leaving the speaker space to respond to the group, so come ready to reflect, ask, listen and take part.
