Hierarchical Divine Liturgy with the Ukrainian Catholic Bishops of Canada

Join Metropolitan-elect Michael Kwiatkowski, Bishop David Motiuk, and all the Ukrainian Catholic Bishops in Canada for a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.

The bilingual celebration will take place at St. Basil the Great Ukrainian Catholic Church in Edmonton and will mark new programming in Eastern Christian Theology and Sacred Music at Newman Theological College.

A celebration of Eastern Christian theology and sacred music

The Newman College Choir, *Kappella Kyrie* Slavic Chamber Choir, and church choirs from Ukrainian Catholic and Orthodox communities in and around Edmonton will sing during the Divine Liturgy. Their participation will bring together the rich choral traditions of the Christian communities that serve the Edmonton area.

The Divine Liturgy will be the culmination of a three-day rehearsal series led by Dr. Melanie Turgeon, choir director, scholar of Ukrainian sacred music, and Professor of Sacred Music at Newman Theological College.

This sacred gathering offers the wider community an opportunity to pray with the Ukrainian Catholic Bishops of Canada, experience the beauty of sacred music, and celebrate the continued development of Eastern Christian theological and musical formation at Newman Theological College.

Sing with the choirs

Singers interested in joining the choir for this celebration are welcome to contact Dr. Melanie Turgeon at melanie.turgeon@newman.edu

Come and pray with the Ukrainian Catholic Bishops of Canada as we gather in faith and give thanks for the growing ministry of Eastern Christian theology and sacred music in Edmonton.
